guess what?

Columbus, GA is ranked number 4 out of 100 for the, get this,

best

places to raise a family. go figure. all this time we were only an hour away from true happiness.

so my foriegn friend is coming from swizterland to visit on thursday and im super stoked to show off my city, to a newbie visitor. I cant wait to be a tour guide- exhibit my room and my friends and jingle my keys (for my personal pleasure only).
Tomorrow I guess im going to take clothes and things to the apartment. My official move out day is friday the 31st (I think). that was my own decision because the family is going to Italy on saturday and since I wont be here to see them off, Id rather not just disappear while they´re away. I made sure the mother didnt think it was going to be weird for the kids to see me for three more days after they got back. Since the pressure of staying is off my shoulders, Ive been able to sit back and appreciate this family much more. Im going to miss them actually. Im pretty sure I will see them again after Im gone- Ive offered to babysit, so who knows? the mother doesnt think theyll be able to get another au pair until january and I do hope that they call on me once and a while. Like I said, Im going to miss the teasing and yelling and familiness of it all.

on a different note, I just read on perez that a journalist in afghanistan was sentenced to 20 years in prison for asking questions in class about womens rights under Islam. how can it be, that in this world we still have people being sent to prison for asking questions?
I get all george bush-y and want to spread ¨democracy¨ all over the world but then I remember that under the mccain/palin regime I cant have an abortion or go to justin thompsons wedding. then I get confused over the word democracy and what it means to be ¨free¨ and then I wonder if we´re all headed in the same direction?

hell.

obama sign didn't make it 1 day. it is gone. i was mad. now i'm going to turn negative energy positive. i'll get another one tomorrow. i wonder where we are all headed as well. there is no "free" when you can't count on someone not stealing from your yard because they are hateful, bigoted thieves. yout dad said we should put a billboard in the yard!

In this crazy, advanced technological world, I am attending an arranged Muslim wedding on Saturday where the bride and groom just met last week...we've come so far and yet in many ways we are so far behind.

I have enjoyed reading your blog - you have such an awesome command of the printed word. You should be very proud of yourself, not only for your writing abilities but also your fearless (well, mostly fearless) desire to strike out on your own in a foreign country - especially without having a command of the language.

Keep enjoying this adventure...Connie Millard
